If you can press the attack and take him out from behind, you’ll get his Irithyll Straight Sword, and you’ll be able to open the door to the Bonfire, and the road beyond. He can be an extremely tough fighter, so don’t be afraid to use an Ember or whatever other items you can to boost things in your favor. Dodging backwards will rarely work due to his extreme range, so be warned if you try to back off and heal. Figure out the chain of his attacks to know when he starts to lunge in one direction, and capitalize on his mistake. He hits fast and hard, and dodging behind him is one of the few ways to avoid his strikes completely - he likes to leap in with a series of 3 lunging strikes, followed by a fourth behind him. Don’t be lured in by the Ember waiting in the middle of the room, and prepare to dodge his first wild lunging strikes.

This mini-version of Vordt can pack quite the punch, as he trades in Vordt’s girth for frightening speed and accuracy with his own frost-biting sword. Taking the elevator down from the tower on the outskirts of the Undead Settlement (the one where you met Siegward), there’s one special enemy waiting between you and the bonfire that starts this new area - an Outrider Knight.
